It looks like rain. But in the end we decide to stay outside, in the Arena, surrounded by the walls of American grapevines. This is home. Here, the stone on which I shall rest my head tonight has been sheltered for days by the shade of our hedges, so that the life it carried within it would not wither. Francesco has died. The white plume of smoke will appear just before we go on stage; then, after the performance, the stone pillow will be returned to its place amongst the hedges, and we\u2019ll continue the evening talking about the future, impermanence and magic. A dear friend will tell us how she freed herself from the self-constructed identity that led her to believe she didn\u2019t like certain seasons. Now, at last, she savours every change in the weather. There was a moment during rehearsals when I wore a ka\u1e63\u0101ya; then the robe disappeared from the stage. We have been gathering in this place for more than ten years, opening it up to artistic experimentation and welcoming visions that nourish our opposition to the bleak reductionism that would have us subject to our fears and slaves to our egos. We have put up a sign stating that we are committed to fighting all forms of discrimination and to promoting the artistic, cultural and political participation of all people, regardless of their ethnic origin, age, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity or whether they have different abilities. I wonder how much longer this sign will be needed. How long will this violence continue?<\/p>\n
